Welcome

The first age is childhood

The second age is responsibilities

BUT THE THIRD AGE IS FREEDOM!

Let u3a membership add another dimension to your life. If you are retired or semi-retired you can take part in educational, creative and leisure activities in the company of others. No qualifications are needed and none are given.

The u3a was founded in 1982 and is a self-administered organisation. Its groups come together to develop new skills and interests on a primarily social basis.

Mapperley and District u3a began life in March 2016. A Steering Committee was formed and on 28 April 2016 we held our Inaugural Meeting.

LEARN, LIVE, LAUGH with u3a

Mapperley & District u3a, usually known as MaD u3a, meets monthly on the fourth Thursday (not always the last Thursday) from 10.00 am until 12 noon latest, at the Mapperley Plains Social Club, Plains Road, NG3 5RH. We have a great turnout and it’s marvellous to see so many people. It’s an opportunity for members to learn more about the groups that may be of interest. Bookings can be made for our Trips & Visits as well as booking tickets for productions at the Nottingham Playhouse and Lace Market Theatre. We have some excellent speakers making it a very worthwhile outing.

We welcome new members to our u3a and will make new people very welcome at our monthly General Meeting. Members may bring guests to two of our meetings.

We realise that for a variety of reasons some people are unable to come to the meetings in person so we provide ‘hybrid’ meetings, which means we send out a Zoom link so those members who stay home can join in online. They get to see and hear the notices about the various activities available and can enjoy the speaker.

We have a follow-up Prospective Members Meeting from 10.30 am until noon at The Old Flower Shop, 934 Woodborough Road, Mapperley on the Thursday following our main meeting. If you are thinking about joining us, please come to either or both of these events and we can find out what it is that interests you most.

Our membership form is available on our Join Us page

We produce newsletters with lots of extras to help you to learn and laugh with our u3a. The newsletter is a great way for us all to share some ideas and stories of things we are doing to keep our minds and bodies active. If you have something useful to say, please let our Newsletter Editor have it before the last week of the month, by email to the Newsletter editor

We try to make our u3a as good as it can be and this is due to a great team of volunteers who are the Trustees, along with those who organise events and run the various groups. To find out more about the role and responsibilities of a Trustee, a Group Convener, or any other function within our u3a please email the Chair or Secretary.

We have a good selection of interest groups and are always keen to hear from members willing to start new groups. Do you have a skill or knowledge that you can share? If you do, please contact the Chair or our Groups Co-ordinatorto explore the potential for another interest group. There is lots of help available in getting a new group started so do please contact us.

If you have any comments about aspects of Mapperley and District u3a, positive or otherwise, please contact us by emailing the Chair. We would love to hear from you because this is an organisation run by the members for the members.

We are also on Facebook; you can find us there by using this link.
