In fond memory of the founder of the MaD Jazzers who departed this life in June 2024, the group has been renamed ‘The Bryan Ruskin MaD Jazzers’. Bryan would have been so very proud to know that the group he loved so much now bears his name.

Our theme for May was ‘My first jazz record or first jazz memory’ – and we had some interesting stuff. The playlist is below – click on the links to listen.

Desafinado – Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd Sextet

Take Five – Dave Brubeck

My Foolish Heart – Bill Evans

The Jazzstep (Montreux Jazz Festival 2000) – Courtney Pine

The Retro Perk – Vintage Café Jazz | Smooth 1960s Vintage Jazz for Stress-Free Moments

That Old Black Magic – Oscar Peterson

Soul Sauce – Cal Tjadar

Guidance – Courtney Pine

In the Night – The Tubby Hayes Quintet

The Jeep is Jumpin’ – Johnny Hodges

Elephant Stomp – Humph at the Conway

In May our theme will be
A post-2000 cover or re-imagining of a pre-1990s jazz classic

Our ‘MaD Jazzer’ Andrew Harper has put together a Spotify playlist of the tracks we’ve listened to in our jazz group meetings. You can click on the link to go to Spotify and enjoy a hugely varied selection of great jazz … MaD Jazzers Playlist

The MaD Jazzers meet via Zoom on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00pm.  This format works well as we can share our music choices online. We also occasionally visit Peggy’s Skylight, an award-winning jazz club in Nottingham.

Would you like to join us?  We’d be delighted to have you!   Please contact the Convener via the email link above.
