12 November is International Tempranillo Day

Tempranillo (‘Little Early One’) a name given to it by Spanish growers who observed its habit of ripening earlier than Garnacha (Grenache).

A thick skinned red grape which forms the backbone of some of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal, delivers contrasting flavours of leather and cherries.  Medium- to full-bodied, with red fruit characteristics.

Tempranillo wines from New World regions, including Argentina, Mexico, and the United States, generally offer more fruit flavours like cherry and tomato-sauce, followed by chunky tannins and less earthy notes
